The Vinyl Tile Horror Part 3

I know you all have been waiting with baited breath to find out what happened with our flooring story but do not fret! The time has come and here we are! Part 3!

I ended the Vinyl Tile Horror story part two, thinking that our floor situation couldn’t get any worse but in fact...it did. As Matt was scrubbing off the glue, he didn’t realize that he was scrubbing so hard, he was also scrubbing the color of the vinyl tile off. Completely off!! So, now my streaked tile looked like it had transformed into a polka dot pattern! When re-doing our house, no one ever told me that I needed to start out by purchasing every stress relieving smelling salt out there! I started to pace down the hallway to get my thoughts together because I was out of control by this point. When I looked down I saw that where they had cut the tiles to fit next to the baseboards, on some of the edges they had chipped a big chunk off the side and instead of trying again, they just filled it in with white caulk. Okay, time to call Mr. Flooring man!! Thank goodness he agreed to come by and fix all of his mistakes! Now that all the mistakes are fixed on day....I’ve lost count. But, we are now at over a month at my parents’ house. Now comes time to clean, seal and polish the floors! Oh, I like them shiny!

We ordered the materials 2 weeks ago and the day had finally come to pick up the stuff to move on to the next step. But, no! How would this be such a long story if it were easy!? We went to the flooring store and with all of our luck, they decided to change their entire computer system the day we put in our order, which made our order not go through.  Uhhggg!! I’m the type that always has to be working on a project. So, this waiting around for the next step is agonizing. Remember our aqua walls that turned red? If not, that’s my way of hinting to read part 1 of this saga. Well, since our house was built in 1957, they built all the walls with block cement, which makes the simple task of hammering in a nail to hang up a picture not so easy. Matt loves it when I ask him to hang something up and then after getting his drill, putting on the cement drilling tool (I’m sure it has a fancy name but I don’t know tools) then putting in the drywall screw and then the actual screw, when I say, “Ohh...that’s too high, can you put that lower?”, the look on his face is priceless.

Anyway, there is a reason I’m mentioning this. Back to the aqua walls that are now red. I got a damp rag and started lightly wiping them off. With my progression I realized that the aqua paint was somehow coming off onto my rag! Now, I’m sure you are wondering, so I will answer your question. We used a great brand of paint and sheen finish that was suggested for our walls. First, it was the polka dotted floors (that did get corrected) but now we have zebra striped walls. I wasn’t going for a jungle theme but knowing my luck, anything is possible. Here come out the gallons of aqua paint again and rollers. When I said I like having projects, I didn’t mean repeating the same project! Well, we are now at week 5 with the parents for a supposed 3 day floor project. The cleaner and seal finally came in but here we still wait for the final step, the polish. We walked in every week to ask where the polish was and the “lovely man at the front desk” would answer, “Nope not today.” Finally, on a Friday afternoon there was hope! The “nicer man at the front desk” said that our polish was on the next truck arriving Monday! Yahoo!! The weekend felt slow and long but as soon as Monday came I knew I was going to be back home in no time! We are now at almost 2 months at my parents. Anxiously walking in, we said, “We are here for our polish!”. The “lovely man at the front desk” replied, “Nope, not today.” WHAT!?!? How in the world were we told that it was supposed to arrive 2 months ago and that it would for sure be here today and nothing!? He answered with a devilish grin and his nose in the air, “We don’t bring in any Armstrong products.” Ummm....we purchased all Armstrong flooring, cleaner and seal and they all came in, no problem. He replied, “Look, it’s not our fault, it’s the company’s fault who you ordered it through.” Okay, so we then called the company we ordered it through and after checking all the tracking for the polish on their end they replied that it says it had arrived but that it was showing an error because the other company wasn’t picking it up. Needless to say, we canceled that order of polish since it was never going to come in and started again with trying to find it elsewhere. We found a company located out in Timbuktu that claimed they carried it. We called and explained the whole situation. Their response was that they could have the polish in as soon as tomorrow! My jaw dropped to the floor. We had been waiting 2 months for this ghost polish that only takes one day to come in with the other company! Hallelujah!!

Anxiously waiting for the next day to arrive I finally knew we were going home soon!! Until that is....remember, I wouldn’t be writing a blog if this was that easy; we get a call from the company that would supply it in one day and good news!! It had finally arrived!! But......it had gotten damaged in transit and every single bottle of polish we ordered had leaked out of every bottle and they all came entirely empty. At this point, I was already so angry that I just had to laugh because honestly if you saw my life on a tv sitcom you would think there is no way that would really happen in real life. But it did, and it’s my life. That’s how crazy this entire situation has been. But finally, finally it all arrived on a beautiful Thursday morning with an extra bottle for free for our troubles and straight away we went working on the floors. Phew. Well so far we have done our living room, hall and kitchen and next is the tiki room, bedroom and bathroom. So, just wait. There is probably more to come.
